Roti Ladoo

Roti Ladoo

Roti ladoos are one of those snacks that are not just delightful for kids but are mom friendly too. Yes, it is everything that a mom wishes about a kid’s food recipe – instant, easy to make, requires less ingredients and most importantly HEALTHY and TASTY. These are great snack options since they provide energy for long durations owing to jaggery and ghee in them. I sometimes give them even as a meal to my 18 months old when he is having a day.

Just like every mom, I like to check and be mindful of what goes on my kid’s plate. So roti ladoos are one of my favorite snacks for my kid due to specific reasons. Firstly, these ladoos are a great way to add nuts to my kid’s diet. I usually add a generous amount of my homemade nuts powder and I don’t have to worry about his daily nuts intake. Secondly, these ladoos get the sweetness from jaggery instead of sugar. When used in moderation, jaggery is not just an excellent source of energy but a good source of micronutrients (iron, zinc). Finally it has ghee which again in moderation is believed to have several health benefits. Needless to say, I am not concerned while feeding my kiddo with this ladoo.

I usually make these ladoos using left-over rotis since they are dry and so easy to crumble. But you can make them using fresh rotis. I also use cardamom powder for extra flavor but if your kid doesn’t like it, you can totally skip it or even add saffron or no flavoring at all. Trust me they are just as tasty without additional flavorings. Do try these ladoos and let me know if your kids like them just as mine does.

Prep time: 2-3 minutes | Cooking Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup crumbled roti (3-4 rotis, preferably left over)
  • 1-1.5 tbsp jaggery (depends on your sweetness preference)
  • 2 tbsp nuts powder (Recipe Here)
  • 1 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
  • ¼ tsp cardamom powder (optional)

Steps:

  1. Crumble rotis into small bits and pieces using a food processor or by hand.
  2. Now take the roti crumble in a bowl. Add nuts powder, cardamom powder, ghee and jaggery to the crumble.
  3. Mix everything properly so that all the ingredients come together and give a dough like consistency.
  4. At this stage, divide the mixture into equal portions. This quantity usually makes 5-6 medium size portions. Roll each portion into a ball.
  5. Instant roti ladoo are ready to serve to your little one.

Notes:

  1. You can decide the size of ladoos (balls) as per your serving preference for your kid.
  2. Roti ladoos are very soft and so they work really well as teething food.
  3. Because of the small size they can be served for baby led weaning food.
  4. You can store these ladoos in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.
